Toyota does not publish a single clean chassis-code shorthand for the Tundra the way it does for some car lines. Both WMIs are registered to Toyota entities classified by NHTSA under vehicle type “Truck,” not passenger car, which is a useful sanity check on its own: a VIN claiming to be a Tundra with a passenger-car-classified WMI (like 4T1, which belongs to the Camry) is worth double-checking. Position 9: Check digit
The check digit is the one character in the VIN that catches typos. It’s calculated from the other 16 characters using a fixed weighting table and modulo-11 math. Position 10: Model year

Where to find the VIN on a Toyota Tundra
Four locations on every modern Tundra, plus the paperwork:

- Rear cross-member corrosion, campaign 09V444000 (2000-2003 Tundra): Toyota recalled model year 2000-2003 Tundras registered in 20 Rust Belt and Northeast states plus Washington, D.C. Excessive corrosion of the rear cross-member could let the spare tire separate from under the bed, and could compromise the rear brake lines and proportioning valve. Toyota asked affected owners to remove the spare tire until dealers could inspect and, if needed, replace the cross-member.
- Power steering gear assembly, campaign 21V920000 (2007-2021 Tundra, also 2008-2022 Sequoia): An incorrectly manufactured power steering gear assembly could leak oil and cause a sudden loss of power steering assist. Dealers replaced the assembly free of charge; owner notices went out in January 2022.
- V35A engine main bearing failure, campaigns 24V381000 and 25V767000 (2022-2024 Tundra, also Lexus LX600 and GX): Manufacturing debris could contaminate the twin-turbo V6 and cause the main bearings to fail, leading to a stall and loss of drive power. The original 2024 campaign covered 2022-2023 trucks; a 2025 expansion added 2024 models and introduced a bearing-inspection procedure ahead of a full engine replacement where needed.
