Every Huracan uses the 17-character ISO 3779 standard. The string breaks into the WMI (positions 1-3), the Vehicle Descriptor Section (positions 4-8), a check digit (position 9), and the Vehicle Identifier Section (positions 10-17).

A pattern emerges from these samples: position 4 is U on every confirmed VIN, position 5 varies by variant family (C for the 610-4/580-2 pair, D/S for Performante coupe/spyder, F/T for EVO coupe/spyder, A for STO, B for Tecnica, G for Sterrato), and position 6 tracks power output within that family. Position 8 is F on every variant except the STO, where it reads X, likely reflecting the STO’s stripped two-seat cabin and different restraint system. We could not confirm a factory VIN for the LP 580-2 Spyder or the ten-unit STJ, both of which are rare or very low-volume, so those rows are omitted rather than guessed.
Position 9: Check digit
The check digit is calculated from the other 16 characters using a fixed weighting formula and modulo-11 math, per federal regulation. It exists to catch transcription errors: change any single character elsewhere in the VIN and the check digit will no longer match, which is why NHTSA’s decoder (and any compliant decoder) flags mismatched VINs as invalid rather than silently guessing at the intended car. During research for this page, one dealer-listed Huracan VIN failed this check, a reminder that listing sites and even dealers occasionally mistype a character.
Position 10: Model year
The 10th character maps to a model year on a fixed, repeating 30-year cycle defined by ISO 3779. For the years relevant to the Huracan’s production run:

The letters I, O, and Q are never used anywhere in a VIN, because they can be misread as the digits 1 and 0. Every confirmed VIN we decoded for this page ran from F (2015) through R (2024), matching the Huracan’s real production window; we did not find a genuine sample using E (2014), consistent with Lamborghini’s own account that Huracan deliveries began in 2014 as early 2015 model-year cars, with S (2025) reserved for the handful of cars titled after the line wound down in mid-to-late 2024.
Position 11: Assembly plant
Every confirmed Huracan VIN carries L at position 11, for Sant’Agata Bolognese, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. This is Lamborghini’s only assembly plant and has built every road car the company has made since 1963, including the Huracan’s Gallardo predecessor and its Temerario successor.
Positions 12-17: Serial number
The final six characters are the production sequence number for that specific car, always beginning with A on the Huracan followed by a five-digit running count (for example, A04748 or A26339). Combined with the preceding 11 characters, this makes every Huracan VIN globally unique, and the count gives a rough sense of build order within a model year: a Huracan Sterrato reading A23767 left the line before one reading A28221.
