If you own an EQS Sedan, or are considering one on the used market, the VIN carries the specifics your paperwork leaves out.

Frequently asked questions

How do I decode a Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan VIN?

Type the 17-character VIN from the windshield, B-pillar sticker, or title into the decoder at the top of this page. Results include trim (450+, 450 4Matic, 580, AMG 53, Maybach), battery configuration, model year, and plant. No sign-up.

Is the EQS Sedan the same as the EQS SUV?

Different platforms and different plants. The EQS Sedan (V297) is built on the EVA sedan architecture at Sindelfingen. The EQS SUV (X296) uses the same EVA electric powertrain but a longer, taller SUV body and is built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Different chassis codes (297 for Sedan vs 296 for SUV) in the VIN.

What is the EVA platform?

EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) is Mercedes’ dedicated EV platform introduced with the EQS Sedan in 2021. Unlike the earlier EQC (which was built on the GLC platform), EVA was designed from the start as an EV with battery pack integrated into the floorpan structure, dedicated crash-cell layout, and 800-volt high-voltage architecture. The EQE, EQE SUV, and EQS SUV all use variations of EVA.

Is the Mercedes EQS Sedan VIN decoder free?

Yes. VinDecoderPlus decodes every EQS Sedan VIN free of charge with no sign-up. A full vehicle history report is available as an optional paid upgrade if you also need battery health records and ownership history.

Can an EQS Sedan VIN be faked?

The B-pillar Datacard can be replaced, but the floorpan stamp, motor housing stamps (front and rear), and battery pack serial are physically tied to the car. Mercedes service systems monitor the battery pack serial against the VIN, so a mismatch is immediately visible on diagnostics. The guide how to check if a car is stolen by VIN covers the verification steps.
